Call for Time Out Resulted to Low COVID cases in NCR

Sunday, November 22, 2020

HPAAC Call for Time Out last August 2020 is recognized as the reason why Metro Manila now has low number of COVID-19 cases.

In his ANCX article, Dr. Benjamin Co, a renowned infectious disease expert in the Philippines, credited the call for time out by HPAAC last August in the "unbelievable" decreasing trend of new COVID-19 cases in the Philippines. The article claimed that Filipinos are now reaping the rewards of that call.

According to Dr. Co, "In the months of July and August, Mega Manila was seeing cases over 3,000 to 4,000 per day, making the health professionals holler for a time-out and make the inhabitants of the central capital of economy and industry in the country trade-in reopening the economy with settling for a stricter lockdown. With so many cases and deaths, a recalibration on how the LGUs were addressing the pandemic was needed. "

HPAAC called for timeout last August 1, 2020 in response to the increasing cases of COVID-19 in the country, particularly in the capital region. It also called for recalibration of government strategy in responding to the pandemic, a call that was supported by Department of Health. In response, President Rodrigo Duterte declared modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) in Metro Manila for two weeks.
